This strongly suggests that any new material in the 1978 edition was
supplied by Gibson. If so, I assume that it would not be covered by
Clark's copyright and that Gibson's copyright (or Wiley's) would not
therefore have the effect of resetting the clock on earlier editions
prepared by Clark himself.
However, I don't know why I jump in here, since I'm heartily sick of
the whole subject--important as it is--at this point. Whether in
dealing with music or writing or typefaces or photography, the subject
of copyright law is perennial in all the areas in which I participate,
as are the cries of "Who are *you* to comment on U.S. [or European, or
whatever] copyright law?" =20
