filters and exposure

I just developed my first roll of infrared film with supprisingly good
results. I used a #25 filter for all exposures. I would like to shoot my
next roll with a #87c, but I am not sure how the exposure would work. In
this time of year is there any kind of rule that you can follow to get good
results every time? I'm used to using my light meter for almost all
exposures and I think that not using the meter would be extremely difficult.
About how much would I be paying for a #87c glass filter anyway? Thanks a lot!
