It sounds like air bubbles but the spot in the center is a mystery. I
diligently rapped my tank for all films and IR was more troublesome. I
rapped harder and longer and the problem went away, but what I've ended up
doing is using a pre-soak where I can rap away and also get a bit of
development compensation. Remember to add 20 to 30 seconds to your
developing time if you do though, as the developer must displace the water
rather than be directly absorbed by the film.
