Yes, but have you noticed *how* it fogs?
It is not a continuous fog all along, decreasing as the film runs 
inwards, it is a sequential fog, about every next curl of the film.
That means that light piping can't be the only source, the felt trap 
must allow a more perpendicular flow of light in as well.
Otoh, it could be that only one side of the film allows the light to 
leave the fiber optic, and if that is the back side of the film 
(which would make sense, since the film plate bouncing/highlight 
effects rely on it), then it would first make contact with the next 
layer of film shortly after the felt trap. Still not a satisfying 
explanation for the multiple sequential fogging though.
