Dan, thanks for that info about the older version of Kodak HIE. If I
do find the bulk roll and start loading my own, I'll definitely make
some sort of non-film leader that is long enough to cover the rolled
up film in the can to protect it from the a leaky felt trap so I can
load in shaded daylight.
I wonder if there is any kind of light that could be considered "safe"
for loading HIE; blue to ultraviolet perhaps?
