OK, so I took the easy way out and copied a bio I use when I have to give
talks or give out at exhibitions.


Born in Toronto, Neil has called Calgary home since 1983 and is an
award-winning Graphic Designer.  Through his graphic design/commercial
photo studio, Eleventh Hour Images, Neil has photographed (or directed the
photography of) a variety of products for magazine and newspaper
advertisements, brochures, catalogues, posters and Point-of-Purchase
displays.  In 1993 Neil Koven Photography was set up to specialize in fine
wedding and portrait images.

Neil has judged photography at local, national and international levels.
His sensitive photos are in private and corporate collections in Canada,
the U.S., Israel, England, scotland and Wales.  In addition, he has spoken
to various groups on different aspects of photography, and given seminars
to amateurs and professionals alike.

Neil is currently the only person in Canada to be accredited by the
Professional Photographers of Canada as a specialist in hand colouring.

In the last few years, Neil has been in over 80 photographic displays and
exhibitions around the world.  He has won numerous awards, including gold
medals at the national and international levels.

I want to evoke a mood or a feeling...a sense of reverie...with my images.
If someone looks at one of my pictures and says "Gee, that reminds me
of..." whatever, then I've succeeded in making them feel something.  That's
why I particularly like to work with black-and-white infra-red film - it
has a wonderful dream-like quality about it, altering reality just enough
to take away the harshness of fact, yet allowing a bit of fantasy to creep
in.  I try to intensify this feeling with enough hand colouring to further
enhance the imagery without altering the mood.
