The iris images could not have been formed in loading or storage, I
think.  And in picture-taking, they usually do line up along the axis
that passes through the light source and the center of the image.

Evaluating what the picture will look like once the lens stops down is
yet another reason for using a camera with a depth-of-field preview,
which I wouldn't be without--David Rosen notwithstanding.
