Or, the iris could be the result of the "blued" or blacked coating on the
iris being reflective. Another thought is that some leaf-shutter cameras,
most notably the folding Minox 95, were notorious for slight light
leaks around the shutter blades which, when the camera was left open
for a long time, fogged the film.
IR is not exactly commonplace film, and there is no telling what
a camera designer not anticipating that anyone would put IR in
his point&shoot might leave to chance. An excellent example being
the Canon infamous IR LED frame-counter! Personally, I'd keep the camera
closed or the lens cap on until the last minute. That way there will
be less opportunity for the effects of leaking light to integrate
over time into enough energy to produce any film fogging.
Not a great idea, but a possibility.
