I'd appreciate comments on the tonal gradation--though I know such
matters are hard to put into words.

When I tried Tech Pan I was hoping for a replacement for Adox KB-14 (I
think that was what it was called), which I had used extensively but
could no longer get. The pictures I made on a couple of test rolls
struck me as very blah at the time, lacking the sparkle and snap that
I was used to from KB-14. Recently I had a few frames from those
rolls transferred to Photo CD for a special project and found them
interesting in a rather understated way before I realized what film
was involved. Bottom line: it appears that I look at the images quite
differently depending on whether I expect to have to realize their
potential in the darkroom or in Photoshop, taking a more encouraging
view in the latter context.

Knowing that there is some near-IR sensitivity suggests possibilities
I hadn't even thought of earlier.
