On mine, the Crown Graphic, the bed will lower.  There are two metal
brackets that hold the bed.  They are pivoted on the sides of the bed
and the other ends run in slots in the camera body.  If you push back,
towards the back of the camera, on the top of the two brackets, and then
the bed will lower, but maybe still not enough.  I think I get a drop of
2-3 inches, probably closer to 2.  Again, this is for a Crown Graphic,
but I bet it will work on yours.
