new guy
Hello,
Here's my BIO. Just started the list today and hope to learn more from
all of you.
I know I have already found more on the net than anywhere else I have
looked.
- Name: Jeff Green
- Profession/Study: Graphic Designer
- Country: USA
- Personal history of photography: Started in High School, shot
amature since then, in the last few years I have gone to full-blown
advanced amature (re. spending WAY too much on photo gear.)
- preferred subjects: nature, abstract, ?
- materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry): Velvia or Lumiere
(100S), HIE, Tri-X (unhappy with), Fuji 800/1600 Filters: 25A,
89B, and 87C
I do not yet develop my own. (but I have a room all ready picked out
for it-heh heh)
- format (35mm/medium format/large format): 35mm Minolta 8000i
- Other strange hobbies: HomeBrewing, woodworking (with intent of
going pro)
- How did you find out about this list: From WJ!
- Expand on anything photographic you like: Currently I am just
hammering out my technique as far as technical stuff goes. I guess
this is one reason HIE excites me. It seems to be fairly technical-but
then again it's very loose and unpredicatable.
This reminds me of brewing.
My goal for infrared is two-fold. 1) I want to get great B&W's with a
WIDE range of tones and a slight 'glow' (preferably with very tight
grain) 2.) The classic white trees and black skies infrared look,
regardless of grain.
I am also in a 'visionquest' of sorts, looking inward to find out
where my strengths lie and what really feels natural. I am currently
reading 'Mountain Light' by Galen Rowell and must say that I am blown
away. He is peeling away layer after layer of thoughts and ideas that
were already in my head, but without context or realization. My
trips to the Arizona desert (in 3 weeks), and to Boundry Waters
(canoeing, in August) are forefront in my mind as major chances to
explore my newfound technical knowledge, and continue on the path to
what I see in my head!
