Definitely you can *grin*  Compose without the filter, then put the 
filter in place and shoot.  The film won't be exposed until the shutter 
opens.

Frankly, I find a red filter (I don't know the filter numbers you're 
quoting) works well with B&W IR.  I usually keep it on the lens because I 
don't find it affects viewing that much, but you can remove it.

I found IR to work well in a Paterson tank, but dim light is probably not 
a bad idea.  I developed in fluorescent light, which may not emit as much 
IR as an incandescent bulb, though.

I'm interested in finding this out myself.  Also, has anyone developed 
HIE in Rodinal?
