>*I don't say that static is not the cause, only that my experience with
static marks has been they appear as random, lightning-like marks. I never
have seen any static marks that appear even and consistant. Consider, for
example, how a static mark could join itself, frame-by-frame, in exactly the
same place; particularly when he whole roll of film was (probably) not
exposed at the same time. Without seeing the marks, it is difficult for me
to comment meaningfully about probable cause. I dislike being negative here,
but looking for static as the cause may be unproductive. In my use of 35mm
HIE film in my Nikon 8008 with data back and Nikon 6006, I have not
experienced the line as have so many others. I do use both a zoom and a
variety of fixed focal length lenses. I process in a JOBO processor, using
Kodak D-76 developer, indicator stop bath and Kodak fixer. Formerly, I used
Patterson tanks with same chemistry--with no observed lines. Just this
morning, I pulled some HIE negs from my file to see if the lines were there
and I had not attended to them. Of the four rolls I examined, not one had
the line. Finally, it may not be outside the realm of possibility that there
is a manufacturing/packaging failure. Such are not unknown, albeit rare.
(Leak in the cassette??) Sorry I could not be more useful, but I thought
that any additional information might add to the investigation, however
remote it might be. Good Luck......James in SW Colorado, USA
