While we are on the Whites, may I also suggest Minor White.
He was one of the great pioneers in IR photography. I'm pretty sure 
there is at least one book of his work, and you can always find his work
among any good collection. Seeing his work is what originally turned me
on to IR photography.

I am just putting together an digital panoramic camera based on a linear
CCD (From a handheld scanner). I took a few images through an
unexposed but processed E6 film as an IR-pass/visible stop filter.
The initial results look very nice - just like Kodak HIE.
