This claim is regularly made on this mailing list, and I've yet to see any
real proof. In fact, there seems to be a fair number of conflicting
reports on this topic. Have you personally tested your claim?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put you or anyone else on the list
down so please don't take this personally. It just seems that we
regularly get this warning about plastic being transparent to IR without
much to backup the assertion. What I find especially interesting in this
case, is that the original poster had identified the light source (red
LED) that was fogging his film, yet we are again warned about plastic
being unsafe.
It seems that what we as a group need to do is to identify those types of
plastic that are not IR safe. Then simply avoid products made with these.
Anyone got an IR sprectrophotometer out there?
