I have tried this with different cameras, without much success. All the
cameras I wanted to use have infrared sensors inside the camera to count
the film sprocket holes and advance the film. New technology!?. You will
have to find one without that technology which is hard to do today. I
taped a red gel cutout on the outside of the lens, not the inside and it
worked fine. Most of the cameras I tried had an automatic cover, so the
gel was protected. You would have to replace the gel from time to time,
but that is no big deal...you can get 3-4 small circles out of one gel.

The only camera I have found that could do what I want is the Leica.
However, it is $800 and not that small. From what I understand, it doesn't
use the ir frame counter technology that would expose your film in the
camera. That is what happened to me on a Contax T-2. Great camera, just
wouldn't do infrared.
