New Ektachrome

I have at last managed to get a reasonably good day and shot off a roll of
the new infrared ektachrome. I'll be putting some up on Invisible Light
soon but my initial thoughts are that it shows a *lot* more red than the
old stuff. I was getting results through a standard yellow filter that
look like the E-4 film through an orange filter. Through an orange filter
the new film produces overexposed reds compared to the green and blue
components. I have very little blue in the shots I took because the
foliage all went red and there wasn't enything else green in shot. The sky
was intermittently cloudy. The super-health foliage was probably due to
extensive rain with sunny intervals.
I worked out that 320 ISO was the equivalent TTL setting for the camera
(Nikon F90) to 200 ISO on an external meter and checked this with a grey
card. Based on this setting I was probably half a stop overexposing. I
bracketed +/- a stop around the camera's setting.
I took the film into a local small pro lab (in Teddington High Street) and
they developed it with no problems.
I have another roll (thanks to Kodak) and will run this off when we get
another good sunny day on a British weekend and I can get some open sky
into the scene. Currently, Noah is knocking at my door asking for wood.
Q? Do you really need to load this new film in complete darkness as the
can says? I wasn't inclined to test that facility.
Andy
