With all this discussion of pinholes, for the lurkers I would have to
toss into the mix that this is certainly not a common occurance. I have
been developing HIE with D76 and stopping with Kodak Indicator Stop Bath
at the suggested dilution for years without seeing this problem. When I
thought that this was the problem with my HSI I realized that they were
really dust spots. I modified my loading technique and have had
considerably fewer problems in this respect. Using water to "stop"
development will merely slow down development, not stop it completely.
It will also exhaust your fixer much earlier than proper use of a stop
bath.
