Re: air bells / pin holes / etc

I might add one additional thing to this discussion about developing HIE.
As I stated before, HC110 has been my developer of choice for over 10 years
for all my black and white work. The only exception has been to use the
TMax developer when using 3200 on rare occasions.
Pinholes are not a problem if you prewash and use a mild solution of stop
bath. I wouldn't omit the stop bath because studies I have read have shown
that stop bath will make for very clean negatives. The elimination of
development "sludge" is probably its most important function. Yes, you can
use water in place of stop bath to "stop" development and remove the
developer so the fixer will not become contaminated. I feel that high
concentrations of stop bath will cause pinholes in ir and kodalith film.
Therefore, I use it at about half the concentration that is suggested with
no problem. I was semi-flamed by some chemist on a list once for
suggesting this, but my experience with this technique over the years has
demonstrated that it works.
