I more than strongly doubt this explanation.
The only strange perforation I have heard of in general is 'no
perforation'; motion picture perforation is identical to the ones
used in photo business.
Even 70mm perforated uses the same sprocket pattern and size as
35mm....and if your camera needs only perforation on one side, you
could splice film....:-))
Btw, if it really would be used in motion picture, why the heck didn't
they ever invite me for a nice IR-movie?!?....;-))
Reminds me of the dream of running 70mm HIE in an Omnimax
theater....I have even seen 70mm stereo Omnimax being shot (not sure
which theaters on the globe can project this type)....now that would
be nice in HIE!
One large application for HIE 35mm bulk is in long roll photo
systems (all big manual cameras had one, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon,
Canon, Rollei)....those definately count on ordinary sprockets.
