Omnimax, Movies on IR and 'Day for Night'

A few thoughts on these threads ...
I have discussed an IR Omnimax movie with a friend who produces movies for
them but it would only be viable as a feature ... they can't make use of
shorts he tells me. Anyone got any ideas for a feature film? What would
Arnie look like in infrared?
The dearth of infrared movies may partly be due to the ban on exporting the
movie stock from the US. (I'm sure I've mentioned this before ... but for
newbies ...) I tried to buy some a few years ago to shoot a 16mm IR movie
but Kodak said they couldn't import it into the UK because it is classed as
militarily sensitive material by the US government. Something to do with
its use for penetrating camouflage I guess. Also I would have to order a
mile or two rather than a measly 20 minute roll!
If you want to shoot 'day for night', in other words in daylight but
looking like night, then try using tungsten-light stock and underexposing
by a stop or two. I don't think infrared comes into it at all.
Incidentally, Day for Night (or La Nuit Americaine) is the title of a great
Truffaut movie. Highly recommended.
