Note that I ment protrusion on top and bottom; left and right is okay
with all cameras I know.

I only used an opaque IR filter thusfar, and those come in 0.1mm and
0.4mm thick polyester, and are easy to cut (though 0.1mm precision to
get it light tight is not easy). That is why I said glass would be
more problematic....:-))

Yep, simple adhesive tape. If it gets messy after removal, I can
simply clean it with alcohol. A 0.4mm thick #87C is sitting in my
EOS-1 for almost a year now.
If there would be a common size for those film windows, I could
order a batch of these filters for a decent price pro filter (high
minimum order costs)....still won't be as cheap as the polyester
filters though.
