Ha, no way!
Bob couldn't even tell me much about the 70mm TLR cameras he
mentioned recently....must have been before his time.
But the story about these 600x backs has been pilfered from a genuine
German rep at Rollei, by yours truely.
It got him going after mentioning that had researched the RB backs
in vain, as Mamiya Holland simply said 'out of production', and
Mamiya Germany said they hadn't ordered one in 5 or more years.
My direct question at Rollei was whether I could have 70mm backs
made for the 66 series, which was (and is) much more appealing to me
than any other system (apart from the square size that is).
He then said that it was very well possible that Mamiya Germany had
sold the last ones to....Rollei. My ears grew twice as long of
course....:-)) It appears that they made a small first batch of about
50 or so, and didn't see a need for their own design. But demand was
higher than expected, and in hindsight they should have designed one
from scratch. My comment that the Mamiya backs were out of production
(according to Mamiya Holland) made him scratch behind his
ear....they hadn't checked their supply for a long time either....8-))
The solution came on the PhotoKina last year....I went straight to
the Mamiya stand, pulled the most important looking Japanese rep by
his tie, and interrogated him. He immediately started digging in the
brochures, and with a big smile he pointed at the 70mm back in the RB
brochure. I then pulled the Dutch rep by his tie, who sheepisly
said that if everything not in the Japanese pricelist was not in
production, brochure or no brochure.
It suits them well that both my 70mm backs now come from the US!....:-))

Look at it as serpentines, apply generously, makes life much nicer....:-))
