Re: Print Club
Comments:
Customers/Patrons of the Arts. Can't speak for some of the areas
you folks reside in, but here in the not so deep south the general buying
public wouldn't know the difference between RC or Fiber-Based paper. For
instance, when I used to attend art shows with my watercolors which by the
way were done on Fiber Based paper the buying public did not have any idea
of the difference between that and a piece of newsprint.
I know many artists who paint only on fiber based papers, and then
proceed to have limited editon prints made....with editions of say 1,500
prints. These are not on fiber-based papers, neither are the inks
permanent. Yet, one artist here sells some of his prints for $1.500! I
don't think the general public knows much of anything about art.
It is a different thing all together when it comes to galleries.
They demand higher prices, so therefore the difference between the two
papers might come into play as their clientele becomes a little more
knowlegeable. Which explains most gallery prints being exhibited on Fiber
Base. Whether this is right or wrong.....it is usually the case.
I personally am using RC papers at this time. As far as the look,
If you have never seen an Infra-red print made on the Luminos Rc Art paper
and then hand-colored, you are in for a treat. I think that Stanee Rae and
Jonathan Penny would agree to this. And, if I'm not mistaken Stanee has
shown these prints and won awards on several, and Jonathan is an expert
printer. I could be wrong, it might have been their charcoal surface which
is Fiber-Base.
As to permanence of RC versus Fiber-Based how many years are we
talking about, twenty-five,fifty, one-hundred? And what happens after that
length of time. The paper deteriorates? Bugs eat it all up?.... (I think
they would prefer fiber-based), it fades into obscurity?
And before signing off.....has anyone tried the fairly new Ilford
Multrigrade double weight postcards? They are pretty nice.
