Ed, 

Sure. Undeveloped film should also work but I was going for the most light
stopping quality possible. Figured Dmax B&W film would be better than
undeveloped film. 

Lining up the sprocket holes is, as you surmised, a bit of a problem but
actually it is not an insurmountable one. The logic being that even if one
does not get it right but does not overlap over a long portion of holes, the
film will still be "dragged" by the leader over the sprocket teeth until the
next set of holes on the IR film engage them.                             

Failing this, there is the option of leaving a gap in the sprockets where the
two films come together so that the only thing that will happen is that for a
short period the teeth will not be engaged in anything. Again, the already
engaged leader _should_ have sufficient "power" to drag the IR film over the
sprockets and from then on all is hunky dory.

I will be processing some film today and will let you know what happened. Right
now I am working with about an 8 inch leader.
