I believe that videocameras commonly have an IR response, at least for
some limited range. I have a Sony camera from 1994(?) that has some
response. The way I discovered this was when I noticed that it could
detect the infrared beam from a television remote control. The
infrared LED shows up as a bright blue on the videocamera image. I
assume that this is a common response for electronic camera CCDs, as I
also saw a picture on the web a few months ago taken with a digital
camera that seemed to show the same response. The photo was taken for
some other illustrative purpose, but it showed a burner element on a
stove, and the burner had a blue glow similar to the remote control
beam. The web page author commented on the weird effect, but didn't
really have an explanation. I can't find that page now, but I believe
it was taken with a Kodak digital camera (though I expect that many
would exhibit similar behavior).
