Remember, video tape stores images using magnetic particles and as such is
not sensitive to light like normal photographic film.

On the other hand...most CCD type sensors have some IR sensitivity. There
are B&W video cameras which are designed for IR sensitivity. Check out the
Supercircuits web pages for some examples of cheap sensors.
