Hi. Peter,

I read your problems with the first 10 (!!) rolls of HIE. Of course
everyone has a different way of exposing and developing HIE. Here I give
you mine:
I place a #25 filter over the lens and meter through that lens. I set my
camera exposure meter at 640 ASA. Development in Kodak XTOL 1+1, at 20
degrees Celsius, time 8 minutes, agitation the Kodak-way. I always
bracket : 0, +1, -1. In most cases the metered time is good, but very
often the -1 exposure does it! The +1 exposure is very often too dark
thus giving low contrast and excessive grain. The contrasty -1 exposure
is the one I like the most for my objects. I think XTOL is the best
developer available at present. It gives good contrasty negatives, sharp
images and fine grain. And it is easy to work with at a whole range of
temperatures. I print on Ilford FB paper size 20x30 cm. All my IR
pictures are framed in black. Beautiful!
I hope this info will help you. Please let us all know how you progress!
