Angel Wings
Since several people have contacted me, here's the details:
Although several photo supply houses sell these wings, some are superior
(and more expensive) than others. Mine are the nicest, and are custom
hand-made to order by a company called the Mother Plucker Feather Company.
Don't you love that name? Anyway, they're located in Hollywood, California,
and make feather goods for the wholesale fashion trade and for
film/stage/display use.
Mother Plucker Feather Company, Inc. 6253 Hollywood Blvd., Suite 522, P.O.
Box 2210, Hollywood, CA, USA 90028 Phone (213)469-5321, FAX (213)469-0134
Sorry, they don't have a home page or email.
Wings are available in 3 styles: Angel Style A (point downward, like an
angel at rest), Cherub Style B (point straight out to the sides), and
Phoenix Style D (swept upward, as in flight). For most uses, the Style A
looks nicest, and is the least expensive besides.
Prices for Angel Style A (please excuse my not converting the inches to metric):
Large (fits teen-adult) $125, width 32" height 31-1/2"
Medium (fits up to 10 years old) $95, width 27" height 23"
Small (fits ages 1-3) $55, width 21" height 17"
Baby (fits infants under 1 year old) $30, width 17" height 12-1/2"
Just to give you an idea, American Photographic Resources' prices for these
same wings are $229, $189, $119, $89!
Mother Plucker will send you color brochures of all the wing styles. They
also make Black wings in style A. Minimum order is 2 pairs of wings
totaling at least $150 US. They don't weigh much, but because of the size
the box is pretty large. These are really beautiful, with layers of turkey
and goose feathers just like a real bird's wings. There are velcro straps
that fit over the shoulder and under the arm.
With Christmas coming, now's the time to start looking around for angel
accessories: brass french horns, violins, harps, white doves, and wire
garland for halos. I found these items at various craft stores in the
Christmas ornament section. And your fabric store will have patterns for
angel robes; look under Halloween Costumes in the pattern books. They are
very loose-fitting and fairly easy to sew. Use gold drapery cord for the
belt/sash.
Stanee
P.S. -- I scanned several photos from Mother Plucker's brochure so you can
see the different styles of wings. Please email me personally if you'd like
me to send you this JPEG.
