Gary --

I started out with a #87 filter gel! It's opaque to visible light so
you can
not see through it! I put it into a Cokin filter holder and attached
that on
to the front of my lens after focussing on a Greek Orthodox church. You
can see
the result at http://www.pic.net/~flzhgn/ir.html

Then a kind soul named Andy sent me a copy of an article he had written
on
Action Infrared Photography - where he gives directions on mounting the
#87 filter
behind the mirror (in front of the film)in a 35mm camera. Works great!
The information is available on a web site at the RIT (Rochester
Institute of Technology)

I usually start my exposures at f8, 1/500th second and bracket the
exposures in
fifty percent increments and note them in a little Cokin filter
notebook.

The #25 RED filter can be used to get combined visible red and invisible
infrared
effects. I notice that my images have more detail but this might
because I have not
achieved the correct exposure.

Best of Luck
