Lenses and IR?

Now for a silly question....
Many years ago when I got my first manual SLR, the lenses had a seperate
marking for IR photography. I still have some of those lenses as I prefer a
manula focus camera to the autofocus SLR (personal Preference).
The question: How does an Autofocus Camera adjust for the different focul
length of IR film compared to normal film?
Maybe I am not thinking on the right lines, when I compare the Manual vs
Autofocus Lenses for SLR's. The camera's I am using are Fujica AX-M, AX-5
and a Minolta 7000 (autofocus) with a Tamron Lens 28-200.
I have bought recently the Tamron 28-200 in the manual version of the
Autofocus lens, and have not seen the IR markings on the lens.
