Jaap,

This is just my opinion, but I do feel that a five times enlargement on
a 24x54mm HIE image printed *with a nice artsie black border* (full
frame), printed on Agfa Multi-Contrast clasic or that new Ilford warm
toned fiber base could work. Mounted in a pure white rag board mount
(20"x16"). Leaving about half an inch all round the image for the
window mat and mounted in a walnut frame (small square profile), very
nice.

Try mounting the image in an *upright* frame, placing it toward the top
of the frame, top of the print say four inches down. You may even find
that a four times enlargement works better for you (even more
dramatic). I have regular 669 polaroids produced on a Vivitar instant
side printer (image size around 2.5"x4") presented this way in 11"x14"
frames and they do look quite striking!

As for subjects, the lack of IR effect does not always bother me, let
the grain and composition carry the image!! I had shot an image of my
puppy sat in the snow last year, he was sitting to the upper right of a
regular 35mm landscape frame looking down and left. With a trail of
paw-prints leading from lower left to upper right being the only detail
in the snow. I printed the image (HIE/little IR effect) hard and
presented as mentioned above, it really looks great.....the grain of the
HIE really does make the shot, without it (ie. 70mm) the shot *wouldn't*
work at all!

After much thought I do feel that the *artistic* benifits of the
24mmx54mm format *far* out weigh the fine grain effect of the 70mm
system, and cheaper to boot! If fine grain/huge enlargement is
important a view camera is the only way to go IMHO.

Best,
Chris
