70mm camera options? -Reply

I moved up to 70mm quite inexpensively (relatively speaking) by
purchasing a Graflex XL. Specifically, I got an XLWA, which has a
different body than the "regular" XL or the XL rangefinder. But, the
XLWA is the only way to shoot ultra wide angle.
It comes with a 47mm Schneider Super Angulon lens in shutter. This is
mounted into a "focus mount"; ie, there are no bellows on this Graflex
camera. I have a few 70mm backs that load relatively easily. These
backs give a slightly wider 6X7 format, which I think I can safely widen
to about 83mm without compromising the back's ability to keep the film
flat. I also have a 6X9 roll film back for the camera as well as a ground
glass focusing setup that allows using 4X5 film holders; althought the
image will be reduced in size to about 3X4.
All of this set me back around $1000. I've gotten some great images with
it and am quite happy with the purchase.
Check it out on the Graflex.org homepage, if you want to see what it
looks like. Strictly a used camera, as they're not being produced
anymore, which also helps with defraying the cost. You can find one
fairly easily by looking through Shutterbug, which is how I got mine.

I'd really like to get a 70mm camera to shoot some 70mm EIR film.
However I
cannot afford a Hasselbald or a Mamiya with a 70mm back! Are there
any 70mm
cameras out there for less than $1000 U.S.A. dollars? I read the
messages
abut the old military 70mm camera on WJ's page, but it sounds like these
are
rare and hard to get. Anyone know of a 70mm rangefinder camera?

- -Thanks for any info.
Peace Rolland Elliott
