The problem is intermittent but VERY annoying as it results in unusable negatives. The pressure plate of the camera has a grid of recesses in it which results in a grid pattern on the negative. Does anyone know of a solution? (other than to switch to a camera with a smooth pressure plate?)

I have been shooting HIE on and off since 1972 in Minolta SRT -101 and
X-570 and never encountered this problem. I have heard from this list
that Pentax cameras do this as well so the solution (which escapes me at
the moment!) for Pentax might work for you.
