re: portrait + re: belgian traffic

Looks like my message didn't pass through, so I try again...

I'd like to comment on 2 topics:

1 - PORTRAIT

I make infrared portraits for some years now and love it. The halo in highlight
with HIE gives very nice effects with nudes, specially when you overexpose. The
faces have some E.T. look because the eyes are dark and the skin very clear (at
least for "white" skin). Of course it is not very realistic but surely
interesting.
The only problem with skin is that you can sometimes see the veins under the
skin, but this is not as noticeable as with color IR which really look like a
dermatology study.

In fact, the main problem with HIE portrait is to find a very patient model,
who doesn't get mad with all these bracketing, focus correction, black filter
manipulation (if you use a reflex) and so on... Happily i have my wife.

2 - Belgian traffic

This is an interesting topic for me as I live in this strange country.
So, why are they using near IR film ? To be able to shoot with invisible flash
? To clearly demonstrate that the light was red ? Because some politician has
shares at Ilford ?
If it is true, then the suggestion of IR light on the plate to burn the image
would please me, but does anyone have any practical suggestion/reference? and
do you think it would work even with daylight?
Thanks for any information

All the best,
Vincent
