Metering HIE

Let me add to the subject of exposure. I have never been comfortable with
through the lens metering, and I prefer the opaque filters over the #25, so
I tried Andrew Davidhazy's proposal to fit an 87C filter over my hand held
exposure meter's light cell. Doing so would not work on my Gossen Lunasix
but it does work on my elderly Gossen Super Pilot. I used a piece of a
Kodak Wratten 87C (13 x 15mm) which on the Super Pilot will slide aside for
use without the filter. I set the meter for ISO 3200 as suggested. I had
already put an 87C polyester filter behind the shutter (courtesey of WJ).
The system works and appears consistent. My first roll was overexposed--my
fault because I used T-Max developer and did not allow for increased film
speed. I think with HC-110 (dil B) an ISO of 3200 would be right on, but
with T-Max developer, 6400 would be better. I have not made enlargements,
but the contacts look fine. My only problem with this set up is
remembering to think IR!
Jim
