..one thing to bear in mind is the dimensions of your photograph:
obviously if you start out from a small one (say a 35 mm
contactprint..;-)..) you have to use a much higher dpi as when the
original is 20*25 cm. What I always do is to put the dimensionswindow of
the scanner on "pixels", change the resolution, and watch the dimensions
(in pixels): If you want your image to be screenfilling on a 15 inch
monitor: about 800*600 (don't know the exact dimensions by hart), use
slightly larger to permit some cropping and scan. The resulting scan will
be screenfilling, or whatever you wanted..(assuming that other people use
the same screen resolution as you are, usually 72 dpi.)
