BIO

Another siteseer puts up his bio as I've been monitoring the list for many
months now.

Name: Frank Shufletoski

Profession/Study: Photojournalism Coordinator/Instructor at SAIT, freelance
photographer of anything or anyone who pays cash.

Country: Canada

Personal history of photography: Editor at a newspaper where I worked
floated me a loan to buy my first camera, a Minolta SRT 101. I learned a
lot through trial and error or the school of HK but I credit a kindly older
commercial/portrait photographer in a neighbouring town 60 miles away for
helping me stickhandle through the maze of f/numbers, f/stops and
hyperfocal focus. I'm the course coordinator and have been teaching
photojournalism for the past 19 years at a post secondary college (was to
be a five year break and then move on so much for that well laid plan)
and haven't regretted a minute of it. I had worked for a variety of weekly
and daily newspapers prior to teaching and started in the print media
publication business as a printer/typographer/press operator.

Preferred subjects: Anything that involves light and a camera.

Materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry): I like B&W a lot and from the
thousands of feet of film shot as a photojournalist I still like the
combination of Tri-X and D-76 although with times and materials changing, I
guess I'll have to look at some new emulsions and chemistry.
For color I like the Fuji products with the ISO 800 a favorite for sports
and pushing, but I like some of the Agfa product for portraiture, weddings,
nudes while leaning towards some of the Kodak Ektapress PJ films when
shooting under a variety of different lighting conditions such as
photojounalists find. For slide material I still like Kodachrome but am
slowing moving to E-6 product which I can process and control, no favorties
yet.
I would like to but I don't shoot enough Kodak HIE, I have my students
shoot Kodak HIE and the Ilford product.

Format (35mm/medium format/large format): 35mm is a variety of Nikons;
medium format is Hasselblad; and 4x5 is an old bellows assembly with a
Nikkor lens.

Other strange hobbies: I use to like to collect pins but really haven't had
time to do this of late. However in the winter months (several here in
Calgary) I coach "A" level midget hockey. By skating with the players
during practice as well as yelling and hollering instructions to hockey
players and helping referees make proper calls during games does wonder to
make teaching easier and helps get the frustrations of non-functioning,
confusing, expensive, error messages from the new electronic gadgets out
of ones system.

Expand on anything photographic you like: Free films and free advice. IF
you think you know it all, there's always someone or something out there to
prove that you don't really know squat.

How did you find out about this list: Surfing, I think.

Frank
