FWIW, trom an automotive mailinglist, about heat & paint colors:

(Btw, yesterday I watched a docu on Discovery channel, where they 
pointed out that eagles had good UV vision....main application: spotting 
the UV-reflective trails of urine from mice(!))

Check with the folks who research colors for solar panels, they also
researched the "whys" and not just the "whats" as did Ford. But it's true
enough about green out absorbing black, something to do with the spectrum
of old Sol's light.
