Another way to protect yourself is to tape the fuzzy light traps on the
film canisters with black photo tape. Then if someone opens the canister,
you protect the film.
I am rapidly reaching the point of taking new HIE in sealed boxes and
taking my film developing tanks with me and simply developing the exposed
film before I take the next flight.
I had the unfortunate experience of leaving Athens after a hijacking
incident in the 1980's and on the third hand check at Hethrow Airport, just
to get on one plane back to the U.S. the inspector wanted to open the
cannisters of HIE, in spite of the labels on the tops. I had over 40 rolls
from a two week trip. I finally convienced him to take a random look at a
couple...he opened four and they were all partially fogged from the
inspection...
Not fun.
