Polyester and Gelatin Filters

Was having a chat to a colleague in my office and casually mentioned IR and
filters.  He then said, "oh you mean these things?" and produced an 87C
Kodak gelatin and a Lee 87 polyester (0.1mm) in 75mm x 75mm both brand new
and sealed from the rubbish under his desk.

Both filters now have a new home and a behind the film rails solution looks
imminent.


Will have to check up on pass bands for the filters and hunt down some
photos showing the differences between using say an 87 versus an 87C.  The
87 is marked 'visually opaque, transmission begins above 730 nanometres.
Guess this is the one which will be used.

As Willem-Jan has pointed out in a previous message, the 87 is about the
limit for Konica 750.  I normally use an R72 - an example photograph using
Konica with an R72 may be found at

I would be grateful if someone could supply a URL showing Konica 750 shot
with an 87 filter.

Current plans are to give Willem-Jan my life savings and run around with a
Cokin P series strapped to the front of my Koni-Omega.  Have also been
toying with the idea of converting a spare back for my Bronica S2A using a
polyester filter....  The potential problems include scratches from the
dark slide and trying to transport the back when off the camera....  who
said anything worthwhile is easy?

Anyone have any long term test feedback on use of different types of tape
to hold the behind the film rails filters in place?
