All of my frozen film is stored inside an army-surplus steel
ammunition can. I did that to keep spilled food and excess
frost off of it, but it also makes it behave much more like one
large thermal mass instead of a bunch of small ones.

Ammo cans are wonderful stuff for darkroom use -- they come in
all sorts of shapes and sizes. Artillery shells come in big
flat cases that make good paper safes, small arms ammo boxes
make great tool boxes, etc. And they're all very solid steel
construction, air, water, and light proof with beefy EPDM
gaskets, etc. Any good surplus shop or industrial supply yard
in the U.S. will probably have some for 1/10 what they cost the
government new.
