RE: HIE base fogging problems

One potential source of fogging of Kodak HIE is caused by exposing this film
to heat. Once when I was impatient and foolish I tried to warm up a roll of
HIE taken out of the freezer by putting it in hot water for about ten
minutes (it was still in a film canister, so it didn't get wet). After
developing the roll I noticed that the first 10 to 15 pictures were so fogged
they could not be recognized, the next 16 to 25 pictures had fog, but were
printable, and only the last 5 to 10 frames were good negatives. To summarize
the fog was very even and gradual throughout the entire roll of film, with it
starting out dense and then gradually becoming clearer.
Maybe the film in your camera got hot before you rewound it and thus fogged
your film.
good luck solving this problem.
Peace Rolland
P.S. The next time I'm in a real rush I'll take my chances with just loading
the film in my camera, even if it is still cold. I'd rather risk
condensation then trying to warm up this film quickly.
