Hi Colin,

If I understand, the second roll was more fogged, and the fog was greater
at the last frame than it was at the leader, yes?

I will then venture that when you spool your film to develop, you put the
leader on the reel first, and possibly also extract the entire film from
the canister before rolling to the reel.

I am venturing further that some low level ambient light was present.

Did you have any more trouble getting the second roll on the reel, compared
to the first? If you have small light leaks, or electronics with red LEDs,
or timers, etc. with radiant faces, the additional time to get the film on
the reel might increase the fog, and the tail end, dangling in the open
would be more fogged, while the leader, protected by the rest of the film,
would be somewhat protected.

Do you have a flouresent light in your darkroom, which was on shortly
before you transferred the film to the reel? They can continue to emit at
low levels after being turned off.

A light leak in the camera is a possibility, but I wouldn't expect a smooth
increase in the density. My expectation would be a flare that repeated
itself at the same point each revolution about the take-up spindle.

Or I could be totally wrong ;^)

Cheers,
Mike
