Re: HIE Base fog problem

Thanks to everyone who came up with possible causes for this fault.

Further examination of the fogged film shows that the fogging is not
worst at the end but about half a dozen frames before. This coincides
with a drive between locations. I think Rolland may be the one with the
answer, ie excess heat. When we drive around in a photographic mood, the
cameras usually sit on the bed in the camper van, ready for use. On this
occasion the Cosina may not have been covered up, and the weather was
fairly sunny at the time. The all-black camera body could have warmed up
quite a bit. That'll teach us!

This camera is light-tight and has never fogged any film before. Also I
loaded the spiral in a changing bag, indoors, straight from the camera
body.

Thanks again to everybody who replied.

Incidentally, for C4N2H5O, it was Theresa Airey who fed us all that
lovely misinformation about IR. She's a bit dubious on toning and liquid
emulsions too, but her book has some nice work to look at. Makes you
wonder how she does it.

Bye now,

Colin
