Kodachrome uses a completely different style of process than
Ektachrome (and other slide films). Basicaly, in process E-6
(Ektachrome, EIR, etc...) color development is done with dye
in the emulsion, and the color apears in the 3 color layers at
the same time.

Kodachrome use a sheme in wich dyes are in the developer. You
have (in basic process) three light exposition (blue, green and red)
and a color development after each one to do the inversion...

this is the reason why only very few labs can process Kodachrome,
and why a "classic" color development cannot be used.

Concerning B&W films, you don't have to worry... but there is no
color dyes in the emulsion and you will end up with a normal B&W
negative... just more expensive (and probably worse than what
you have with a good and cheap B&W developer :-)
