As with any film/developer/meter system it's wise to test before souping
several rolls of irreplaceable film....I'm not sure what film you used XTOL
with, but so far I've been within 1/2 stop using Kodak's development times.
I don't use XTOL much just because I'm lazy and prefer to dilute
liquid developers at the time of use. I feel you more consistency using a
one shot liquid rather than having the working solution oxidizing in a
bottle. AGFA Rodinal and Kodak HC-110 always work pretty well and have been
around forever, so the consistency from batch to batch and longevity are
very good.
