Outdated Material

Thinking of Eric's outdated film and responses for outdated material, I
recently made some 5x7 prints on Kodak Azo dated from 1957 with excellent
results, ie just like new. If you're not after something exotic you can
try adding benzotriazole to the developer. 1/2 to 1 oz of a 2% solution per
quart of developer for paper. I have not tried it with film, although I
understand it works just as well. It does slow the process about 30%. I
would not recommend it for warm tone papers as the cream colored white
becomes true white.

I do have a question about film holders and IR. I have reservations about
the comments that film holders with five dots on the holder (not the dark
slide) are IR safe. My 4x5 film holders have five dots and are IR safe.
However, I have a batch of old Lisco Regal 5x7 film holders also with said
five dots. I have never heard of IR film in that size and wonder why they
so marked and whether they are IR safe.

Jim
