Well, it seems we have a religious and social (economic) war here. Niels
Nielsen is expressing a philosophical view certainly pertinent to some
artists (not all), but certainly impertinent to commercial photographers.
Mr. Koven is represting the commercial photographer quite well.
I'd be very surprised (pleasantly) if Mr. Nielsen were a highly successful
commercial photographer competing in the same area as Koven. Is he? (Are
you, Niels?)
Photography has room for most camps, and such misunderstandings will arise,
and they are healthy. Personally, I sympathize with Niels Nielsen. I've been
in computing for just over twenty years, and photography for
thirty-something. I can say that most of the work done with computers is
done merely because computers are there. But the same goes for sophisticated
cameras. It's Technology for Technology's Sake that disturbs me. But hey,
what the heck, I'm only one person. Fortunately. :)
