I tend to think it is a production problem -- pressure being applied as the
film is being coated or spooled. There are no visible depressions or scoring
of the estar base, so only the emulsion was affected.

I called Kodak, and they are sending a trouble form, which they've asked me
to complete and return with a sample neg. strip. So it appears that they are
handling product complaints more formally than they have in the past.
